Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen – Michael Jordan

We are getting closer to the end of the year very quickly. This is the time when the concept of your priorities often comes to life. Let’s be frank with each other, as a matter of fact it is not the list of your priorities. It’s just your wish list.  Your wish list. The things you wish will happen. Not the things you are committed to fight for. Unless you block your time to follow through with the necessary actions it will only be your wish list.

What makes you even want to make a new year’s resolutions in the first place? Why in the beginning of the year we feel that we should do it? Is it a new tradition? It goes way beyond that. It’s something inside of you that wants something better, that wants more. It’s your inner fire and desire for progress. Yes, it’s still alive although you tried to kill it so many times.

Fresh start

The 1st of January gives this idea that you can have a fresh start. Tabula Rasa. We think that it’s a time when we can change anything we wish. Well, that’s both right and wrong. The truth of the matter is we can do it whenever we truly decide and take immediate, massive actions.

Work on progress not change

People tend to say: Oh I’m working on change. I’m trying to change it. Don’t worry about it. You don’t have to work on change. Change is automatic. But progress is not. If you want to make a real progress, a real difference you’ve got to look at your life in a different way. Progress is exciting. Progress never ends. Your Journey never stops.

Resolutions Commitments

Take control over this process. Don’t hope it’s going to work out just because you made a new year’s a resolution. Isn’t that, what we are you really doing at the beginning of the year? You say, here are my resolutions for the year and those actually are only your wishes. It’s a wish list that you hope will somehow, easily and magically come together.  The real resolution cuts off every possibility except the one you’re committed to. There is no other way.

How easy is it to be lazy?

Once you have a desire and direction you need to take it a stage further. But how? To take this next step you need discipline. To get something you never had you have to do something you never did. You need to work harder and more consistent then you ever did before. Reverse this statement and tell me How easy is it not to be discipline? How easy is it to sit on your couch, watch movies, keep scrolling on your Facebook? How easy? It takes no effort.

If you are a runner you will run no matter what the weather is going to be. It can be cold or windy, it can rainy or snowy, you will still go running. Why is that? You have changed your identity. You don’t let the things that are out of your control to stop you. In order to keep on going you need to change your identity and develop proper habits.

Joyful pursuit

If you want to master any area of your life you need to work on it consistently. Be absolutely committed to the habits and practices that support you on your Journey. Ask yourself what kind of discipline you can create in your life that you will be doing consistently every day. Create a joyful habit of consistent pursuit after your vision.

Be cautious with your focus

To perform at the highest level, you must stay focus all the time. Be aware of distractions you are submitted to. Get rid of them. Don’t let anything or anyone to distract you. First be aware what are you paying attention to and change it if it’s necessary. Your time in very valuable and no one is allowed to waste it. Not even you.

Day off

Every once in a while, every week or every month, every once in a while you need to spend few extra hours to really clean your head. Be by yourself. I know that sometimes it can be very hard to find time but everyone can do it. Call me or text if you are not able to find 2 hours once a month and I’ll show you that you can.  Get your priorities in line. Sort it out. Charge your batteries. Look at your life from above. Let yourself to see the big picture. Most of those things should be done on a day to day basis but every once in a while, give it whole day. That’s a magnificent investment in your future, your vision, your dream.

Rocks of life

If we want to advance with our priorities, first thing we need to do is to clean up our list. Let’s take the really big items, the rocks of your life, the things that will give you most significant outcomes and schedule them right away. Don’t go after smaller outcomes only because the actions are easier.  It’s so crucial to schedule and do all those really important things first.

They laugh at me because I'm different; I laugh at them because they're all the same - Kurt Cobain

Confidence is one of the best traits you can have. Arrogance is one of the worst, and the line between the two can be very blurry. Some people are worried that if they become confident, they’ll cross the line into arrogance. Or even if they don’t other people will perceive their new confidence as arrogance.

Let’s start with the obvious one. Confidence is attached to reality and it backs up what it says. Arrogance is excessive and is often proven to be far from reality. The lesson is: don’t talk if you can’t back it up. But the defining aspect of arrogance as you’re most likely to encounter it or even exhibit it is loudness. Confidence is a firm statement – arrogance is a scream.

In addition, arrogance comes through when someone’s status or track record leads them to believe or behave as if they are superior to other people. Don’t let yourself believe that you are better than others because you’re not.

No matter what success you have in life you need to get clear on your values and standards so that you know how you and other people should behave. Those standards apply whether you are at the top of your industry or just breaking in. Do not let yourself believe that you are better than other people because you have achieved more. Arrogance is never a sign of confidence. What’s more arrogance and diminishing others will never serve you any good in a long run.

Credit of success

Lastly, you can spot arrogance by how it shares or doesn’t the credit of success. No one does it by themselves. People are trained by coaches, mentors, supported by family or friends, pushed by their competition and as cheesy as it sounds we want that acknowledged during a victory. When we see people giving credit to others, we realize they know the contribution of others and we see those people as less arrogant.

In summary, confidence is secure because it is based on reality. It’s quiet. It doesn’t act morally superior and remains humble while acknowledging others and even luck but it still has conviction built both through experience and through visualizations.

Arrogance may look like extreme confidence and I think that’s why people are worried that confidence will turn to arrogance. But the way that arrogance is created is almost exactly the opposite of confidence.

Arrogance is nothing more than a compensation for someone’s  insecurities.

Need for approval

Arrogance very often comes from those insecurity. The arrogant person may still visualize themselves winning but their visualizations focus more on the praise that they will receive than on the achievement itself. And that is because arrogant people feel like they need a constant stream of external approval so they’ll give opinions where they have no experience. They’ll flaunt their successes loudly and still not feel great inside.

Arrogance occurs when you identify your self-worth with your skills and your opinions. Because they are yours, they must be superior and if they weren’t superior you would feel worthless. Confidence occurs when your self-worth is so solid that you can evaluate your skills honestly. Sure, you’re going to put in the work to make sure those skills are top notch and that your opinions are well-founded though you always recognize that they can probably be improved. You don’t need them to be superior or perfect to feel like you are enough.

Confident people don’t feel the need to brag. Their accomplishments do it for them. Arrogant people always find a way to brag and top whatever you just said.  While confidence is often shown in saying I don’t know the answer, arrogance is a conviction and a need to always have an answer. Since arrogant people are only concerned about themselves, they’re not really listening to you. Not only are they always on the lookout for someone else to talk to, they interrupt the conversation frequently.

While deep-rooted confidence takes some time to develop, you can boost your situational confidence very, very quickly. Do you want to find out how?  Follow my blog posts.

Confidence is inspiring. Arrogance turn people off.  Confidence gets hired but arrogance is shown the door.

Now be honest with yourself. What are you? Are you confident or unsure? Are you self-assured or are you arrogant?

We are addicted to our thoughts. We cannot change anything if we cannot change our thinking – Santosh Kalwar

Most of people take a little and turn into a lot. They focus on what’s wrong and they run a whole story around it. What we need to do, is to take all that noise and turn it into music.

Unfortunately, most people are spectators. They spend majority of their time watching entertainment, sporting events, television. That’s what majority of people do. Majority of people spend their time and their money on things that provide them release from their lives. From stress. They look for distractions. Do you like to consume other people problems? No? So why do you watch TV? Don’t you have your own problems? I know I have and so do you.

Viewer, recorder, projector

Your eyes are only viewers but your brain is a recorder and projector that is running a different story over every picture. We can all have different filters and focal points in the same story. That is why so often we catch ourselves and our friends on telling the same story it two totally different ways. Focusing on different events, different people, giving it in fact totally different meaning. Don’t ever give fear the power to write your script. Make a conscious choice to perceive challenges as something beneficial so you can deal with them in the most productive way.

Stop being a lazy person that’s full of excuses. Stop coming up with every excuse in the book for why you are not wining.  You are the reason why you’re not wining. You keep messing with evil, negative and dysfunctional people. Stop complaining about being out of shape when you never go to the gym. Stop complaining about the way you look when you eat everything in sight. You are the reason you look the way you look. You are the reason you are unemployed. You are the reason you are negative. You are the reason you are unhappy. You are the reason.

We are being raised in a generation of people that come up with every excuse in the book as to why they are not wining. Excuses sound best to the people that’s making them up. You’ve got every excuse in the world that’s why nothing ever change and nothing will change. You have convinced yourself that everything is negative, wrong and nothing will change. Guess what? You are right. It won’t change. Change your mind and it will change your life.

Pity Party

So many people thought their way into depression. They thought their way into negativity and misery. It’s all in the mind. Change your mind and it will change your life. You just have to wake up. You just have to break that negative spirit. You have to break that pattern.

I don’t feel sorry for you but you feel sorry for yourself and that’s the problem.  Even when positive people are trying to give you all this good energy you have tricked your mind to turn every positive thing that they say into something negative. Every time they say anything to motive you and inspire you, you turn it into something negative.

If nothing around you changes, change the things around you.

The outcome of your life and your carrier is based on the choices that you make. Get of the pity party.

Challenge yourself

Honor that quiet voice within you and continue to saturate your mind with positive things. Continue to look for people with talents, abilities, skills and surround yourself with people from which you can learn and grow. This will allow you to develop new skills, new talents, new abilities, new relationships, new resources. As you learn, as you grow, as you develop, you will discover things you can do, that you don’t even realize yet. Most people fail in live not because they aim to high and miss.  Most people fail in live because they aim too low and hit. What’s even worse some people don’t even aim at all. I did that for many years and it only brought me stress, fear and frustration. There are things you can do, that you haven’t try yet and you’ve got to challenge yourself. Well, I’ve tried some things and they didn’t work out. So, what? That’s how it should be. You should fail many times. Fail your way to success.

Your story is also represented in the language you are using both internally in your mind and externally to communicate with your environment. Language is the software of your mind. It has the power to change your statement. It has the power to change emotions. It has the power to change your story. What you do, what you accomplish is a result of what you believe and the story that is in your head. The story might be magnificent, powerful but if your language is negative or sluggish you will never get there.

Fill your head

Fill your head with words that empower you. You have got greatness within you. Challenge yourself. Push yourself. Surround yourself with people who have goals and dreams. Mastermind, encourage and inspire each other and you will develop strategy and synergy to do more than you ever begin to imagine. You have something special. You have greatness within you.

Your story

Most of us had those big dreams in our childhood about being a hero. Some of us still have them when we get older. It was either about saving people from a humongous fire, catching extremely dangerous criminal mastermind or making a winning shot, scoring a vital goal in championship game. We felt marvelous, significate and powerful. When we are younger we dream about all those things but later we don’t even dare to do that. Why have we stopped doing that? Maybe because we have become disappointed or we got frustrated by life. Maybe we are disappointed at ourselves. Whatever the reason might be we need to purposely come back to this habit of being a hero is our own story. In the end, regardless if we want it or not, we are the main characters in our story and it’s totally up to us to be a great hero.

Be a hero in your own story.

How you will write and live your own story will determine, what kind of a hero you can become and how many secrets will be revealed to you.

Genius is 1 percent talent and 99 percent hard work – Albert Einstein

You heard it so many time and you still don’t believe it, do you? Why? Because it’s the easiest thing to do and let’s face it most of us are just lazy. That’s how we have been developed by centuries of evolution. We take the easiest path. What’s even worse we take a break on the side of that path and sit there for a few years.  Some of us sit there for the rest of our life and wait to be rescued. We want to be given a chance but we don’t do anything to create it for ourselves.

Is it just talent

The separation of talent and skill is one of the greatest misunderstood concepts for people who are trying to excel, who have dreams, who want to do things. Talent you have naturally. Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft’ – Will Smith

Misinterpretation of talent is just astonishing to me. Talent is overrated and almost always it is mistaken with hard work. Don’t get me wrong I believe in its existence but it’s only the part that let some people take faster and with bigger leaps. Talent without hours and hours of working on your craft will not get you anywhere. Most times what gets labeled as talent is hours and hours of hard work. Simple as that.

Most of us have a story that we are not good at something because we’re not talented in that area. You could be talented in running but pure talent will not take you anywhere. Without hours and hours of training, sweat and pain there is no way you could run a marathon under 4 hours. Show up every day and inch yourself towards your vision. Every day you have to take action that moves you closer to achieving your dreams. You have to be moving every day. Add value every day. Get your ambition and multiply it by ten.  Think and dream big but start with small actions. Start where you are with what you have because what you have is plenty.

Hard work beats talent

As mentioned before nothing in life is free. Nothing happens overnight. When you see greatness in someone you often think that is a pure talent or great gift. You don’t see and or think about massive amount of hard work behind it. NBA’s  2014 Most Valuable Player Kevin Durant said ‘Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard’. Nothing is free. Why don’t you believe it? Why are you still waiting for that?

Brief Story

If you are indeed talented but you won’t be working your socks off, you will never be successful. Never. You will probably be off to a good start but you will never reach your full potential. You will be one of those brief stories about wasted talent. We all know so many of them. Our friend form high school or college team. I have seen it and I bet you have seen it too.

Results will come

I was attending athletic high school and one of the other classes was a basketball class. They were playing really good and in the first year in school they’ve became national high school champions. Instant success. Along those talented players there was a guy who I was playing against just a year erlier in a primary school game. He wasn’t any good. Not even decent. Slow, not athletic enough. He had very little skills and even smaller understanding of the game. But he was on the team due to his size. I think he was about 200 cm (6 foot 7) in the 8th grade. That was quite a size for a high school kid in Poland. He was not the star of that high school team. Most of the players from that team went to play for a local team in one of the lower leagues. Very quickly one by one they were quitting.  Until he was the only one left. I don’t think you can say that he was very talented but it’s obvious how persistent he was. He worked really hard. He didn’t quit. In 2015 he was the first player from that high school team who debuted in the highest ranked polish basketball league. That is a great example of the power of persistence and it can easily be an inspiration to keep on grinding. Results will come you just need to be patient.

If you ask anyone Do you want to be successful?  Do you want to live a life of contribution? Do you want to accomplish your vison, achieve you goal, fulfil your dreams? Do you want to be better? Do you want to be healthier? Do you want to be rich? Do you want to be happy? Everybody will say YES! The true expectations don’t show up in your word but in your behavior and in your actions. I can tell what do you expect by what you do. Your behavior when nobody’s watching. It takes tons and tons of work. There will be a million reasons why not but there’s one great reason WHY. It’s your vision. Preserver and stay focused. Practice is not to be done once you become good, whereas it is required to become good.

Talent and good intensions are never enough.

Tough times never last, but tough people do - Robert H. Schuller

Let’s face it’s not going to be easy. There is nothing easy about the thing you want to do. Tough times are going to come. Fear is going to come. Failure is going to come. Winter is going to come. That shouldn’t be a surprise because tough times were here before, right? Fear was here. Failure was here. So was winter but we always seem surprised and feel disappointed when it comes back. Why this keeps happening to us? I would risk saying that we are not prepared to what’s coming at us. Tough times are coming at us with a full blast. Winter is coming. So how can we prepare?

You are the reason

You need to develop strong enough reasons to follow through when it’s going to get tough. Your intention is everything. Nothing in your life happens without it. Nothing ever in life has been and never will be accomplish without it. There will be a million reasons why not but there’s one great reason WHY. It’s your vision. You are the reason you think the way you think, you are the reason you act the way you act, you are the reason the way you are. It’s up to you to change it what needs to be changed. Persevere and stay focused.

Don’t criticize what you’ve got. Instead turn what you’ve got into the miracle of your future. Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Sometimes your real dream will reveal itself once you start going towards your goal. Do not limit your belief or what you are capable of based on your skill set today. Your skill set today has nothing to do with whether or not you can accomplish your future vision. The important things are the skills you need to learn to get there. New routines, new habits, new friends, new mentors. Every big goal is impossible at first, but with every inch, with every step you take in becomes more and more possible.

Clean up your neglect

We tend to delay doing the most important things. Why? Because we know it will take a lot of time and effort to do them. We are afraid to fail so we feel a lot safer not to try at all. Break that limiting belief.  Clean up your neglect. How? If you feel you should work out and you could work out but you don’t work out, it’s a clear sign that you are on the wrong track. If you feel you should learn and could learn but you don’t learn, it’s a clear sign that you are on the wrong track. If you feel you should read and could read but you don’t read, it’s a clear sign that you are on the wrong track. Should call. Could call. Don’t call. On the wrong track. Should change. Could change. Don’t change. You are on the wrong track. Conversation you haven’t had, calls you didn’t make, hours you didn’t practice. Get that job done. Don’t let neglect destroy your day, Don’t let neglect destroy your future.

Do what you can

Go back and do what you can. If you do what you can then life will give you some extraordinary things to do. You start with the smallest of disciplines and do not neglect them and do not disregard them as being trifling. Everything matters. Everything is important. All disciplines affect each other. Do not disregard the smallest of disciplines. Do not neglect the smallest of disciplines and build on that foundation and you can have everything you can possibly want. Take care of your smallest disciplines one by one until you get to the bigger ones. By that time you’re going to have experience, knowledge and skillset to take care of the bigger issues.

How to prepare for winter?

What I can do about the upcoming winter of my life? What I can do about the challenges that I know I’m going to face? Here’s what you can do. You can get wiser and stronger. Wiser and stronger.  Come home smarter than you left. Go home with more ideas that you had. Next get stronger. You can develop the muscle. You can develop the courage muscle. You can develop the inspiration muscle. You can develop the discipline muscle. You can get stronger. Anybody can get stronger. You can develop the mental strength and ability to handle anything. After a while your friends might not even recognize you because of how strong you have become.

The key is not to wish for a better winter.  The key is to wish for more strength, more wisdom or courage and actually get better, get wiser, get stronger.

Self-Esteem or Self-Confidence?

Well, both. What’s the difference between confidence and self-esteem? The definitions of the words self-esteem and self-confidence are often used interchangeably when referring to how people feel about themselves. People often talk about them together, but they’re actually very different. Sometimes they go along each other but that’s not always the case. Of course people who have high self-esteem can also be very self-confident. On the other hand, quite often people with extreme self-confidence can have a very low self-esteem.

What is Self-Esteem?

Self-esteem refers to how you feel about yourself overall. How much esteem, positive regard or self-love you have. Self-esteem develops from experiences and situations that have shaped how you view yourself today.

What is Self-Confidence?

Self-confidence on the other hand is how you feel about your abilities. It can vary from situation to situation. Self-confidence is related to action.  It’s your belief that you can succeed at something. Your friend can be a confident that she is a good manager but she’s not at all that confident about speaking in public.

The other thing you have to have in mind that your self-confidence can sometimes be mistaken with arrogance. There is a very thin line between those two but being sincere and humble will help you stay on the good side of that line.

Can they go together?

As mentioned before there’s no doubt about it. When you love yourself, your self-esteem improves, which makes you more confident. When you are confident in areas of your life, you begin to increase your overall sense of esteem. You can work on both at the same time.

How to build Self-Confidence?

You all need to understand is that self-confidence is a skill. So you build it just like any other skill. You learn it. You practice it. And master it. Surprised? I know many people who actually would be very surprised and disappointed that it’s not something given to people and they just weren’t lucky enough to get it. They often think they were just not blessed with this gift so there’s nothing they can do about it. Until they change that belief they won’t do anything to build their self-confidence. Some of them never try to confront and change that belief.

It’s a skill

Without that skill you can never shine in any area of life. Some of the greatest athletes are shy in front of the camera but on the field they are as confident as a charging bull. Self-confidence is the ability to believe that you are able to accomplish anything you decide to. The odds, the difficulty, the adversity, it all does not matter. What really matter is that it can be learned. So what does it take to learn it?

Well, all it takes is one thing. Only one thing.

Repetition. Repetition. Repetition. No one is born self-confident. Just like anything else it takes time. It is a process. It is a Journey.

How to build Self-Esteem? There are 6 practices that can help you tremendously which where described in “The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem” written by Nathaniel Branden.

1. The practice of living consciously.

All of us have more knowledge than we normally are aware of. More wisdom than we use. More potential than typically shows up in our behavior. Unfortunately, most of us are sleep-walking thought our existence. We need to start paying attention to what we are actually doing. We need to act with a purpose and intention.

2. The practice of self-acceptance.

Improve what you can change and learn to accept what you can’t. Let me address a common issue. There are people who think that self-acceptance somehow goes against self-improvement. It’ doesn’t. In fact, self-improvement can only follow self-acceptance. Accept yourself. Accept your advantages. Accept your disadvantages and those you already can.

3. The practice of self-responsibility.

Very often people use a certain excuse to explain why they are doing what they’re doing or not doing anything. I don’t train because I have a medical condition. Does this ring a bell? Have you heard it before? That’s a very easy way out because there’s always something you could be doing to improve your fitness. Don’t give yourself this easy way out.

4. The practice of self-assertiveness.

Staying authentic to our true self under pressure. Be grounded in what you believe in. Don’t say you sort of believe in it. You need to fully stand for what you believe in. 100 % unapologetic. It doesn’t mean lacking social awareness or to be pushy and start converting other people to your beliefs. But don’t go against your authentic self.

5. The practice of living purposefully.

If you will live your life with a purpose you will have a higher self-esteem. That’s one of the reasons why athletes or entrepreneurs have such high self-esteem. They do what they do with a purpose in mind. Not only they know what’s at the end of that road, they see themselves already there. They know it’s going to be tough but that’s never the reason to stop.

6. The practice of personal integrity.

If you are going to act against what you believe in your inner voice will tell you over and over how worthless you are. Only you will know, but when it comes to self-esteem, your inner voice is the one that matters the most. You can’t have the voice in your head telling you how worthless you are and build self-esteem at the same time.

Notice how each pillar starts with ‘practice of’. Self-esteem is not something you build by reading this article, by reading a book or watching a video. Self-esteem, just like self-confidence, is a skill. It’s something you build by constant practice for the rest of your life. Repetition. Repetition. Repetition.

Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step – Lao Tzu

When to start? When it is a good time to start? What do you think about NOW? Why not NOW? There never was a better time. There never will be a better time. Take this vision, take this Journey. Don’t let it expire. Don’t let it die. Take this vision give it a new lease of life. Take it and ignite the fire inside of you until finally it becomes a flame that burns around your whole world. Jump on this Journey and change your dreams into your reality. Most of people already know it on some level but they still don’t take any action. They don’t do anything about it. Knowledge is power only when you put it into action. Otherwise it’s totally redundant.

Make discipline your superpower

Once you learn about the power of habits, it’s going to change your life. Your habits are the reflection of your discipline or lack of it (see Habits are your wings). Discipline is one of the most important things that we can develop in our life. It’s a major factor to self-reliance and willfulness get things done on a continual basis. Without those skills you’ll never get that great amount of momentum and progress towards what you really want.

And I bet there are a lot of areas of your life that could benefit from being more discipline. What’s the first one coming to your mind?  It can be doing your creative work, working out more often or eating healthier food. Whatever you may think of. Make discipline your superpower. Make discipline a major force in your life because without it you will not be able to grow consistently. Discipline is inseparable and core component of your Journey.

Change your story

Furthermore, it is a continuing and unstoppable journey itself. If you truly want to get on this boat, once and for all you need to leave that island of I don’t feel like it today. You can really change your story and you change it now. Anyone can start the Journey. Anyone. It is not the question of Could you do it? It is the question of Would you do it? And Would you do it NOW?

Start your Journey NOW. No matter how small or big is the new habit you want to develop, trust me you can begin NOW. It’s not the size that’s the problem. The real snag is whether or not you will ever start your Journey and whether or not you will go on to continue no matter the odds.

Today. Right away. NOW.

We all know that creating new disciplines and habits, as well as improving the ones that already exist, are the things that gets us going towards our vision. So why don’t we follow on that knowledge? Why do we keep on walking in the opposite direction of our dreams? Remember that it’s not about greatness when you start, it’s about starting to get to greatness.   You don’t have to be fit to start working out. You don’t have to be wealthy to start a wealth plan. Anyone can start the Journey. You can live the healthy, happy and wealthy life right NOW. It can begin today. Start your Journey NOW. If you think of a new idea, today is a day to begin the discipline of putting that idea into action. Arrange all those habits that you need. Set up your day as a long, exciting and busy start for your new life. Leave your despair, your fears, your guilt of the past and start going forward. Start Today. Start right away. Start NOW.

Show up every day

Start small. It’s never about how big you start. You don’t want to get overwhelmed on the first day or in the first week. What’s more important is not to quit when you don’t see results at the beginning. Don’t let yourself get disappointed because you were too focused on the outcome, instead of the learning process. Every step you take along the way, every failed experiment, will add up and get you closer to your destination. Show up every day, be there, get to work, get it done.

Turn towards your dream

We all want to be successful in certain areas of life. At least one of them. You might not admit it, you might not be aware of that, but that’s how it is. Success is an imprint of your disciplines and your habits. It might be invisible and obscure image for now. But you have to be patient and persistent because the effect might come a little later. Be patient and it will come.  Every cloud has a silver lining. Discipline means turning away from something comfortable towards something totally different. From not exercising to exercising. From drinking soda to drinking water. From not saving to saving. From being miserable at work, to loving it.

Your opportunity is here right now

Being successful means to me to be able to respond and actually anticipate the invitation of an upcoming opportunity. There is always an opportunity to grow, to develop, to become and to progress. But the biggest, the most fulfilling of all successes is making your life what you want it to be. Now the big question is What do you really want from life? What do you really want?

You are the average of Five People you spend most time with – Jim Rohn

Who do you want to be? Do you want to be like your friends? Are your friends aiming to be the same kind of person you want to be?

People with whom you hang out with will shape who you will become. You truly are the by-product of the 5 people you spend most time with. Audit your inner circle. Audit the 5 people you spend most time with.

Don’t adapt to negativity

Quite often the condition of our motivation depends largely on our environment. Examples are everywhere. Let’s look at some of your friends, who have quite similar goals and dreams. They are working their tail off to get ahead. You see them grind and fight. How would it affect your motivations? Would you be more motivated? Would you try harder? Would you be doing more than now? I’m not talking about being envious. It’s about pushing yourself further. If you surround yourself with people who are constantly in a negative state, who complain and gossip, they are going to kill your energy, your motivation and your happiness. Just like that. The more time you will spend with them, the more you will be like they are. That is a clear downside of our ability to adapt. If you will go grab a coffee with a friend who is constantly complaining, unless you are very mindful and mentally aware, you will adapt and play to this tunes. Now tell me who is your dinner or coffee buddy?

Cut them off

It’s stunning how much you we are affected by the five or six closest people to us. The dramatic trigger to your emotional success is disproportionally dependent on the people around you.  Eliminate people who are demolishing your ecosystem and are holding you back. That’s tough. Easy for me to say, right? Yes it’s easy to say, but I actually did it. But here’s the punchline, it doesn’t make it any less true or any easier.

It’s about you!

It sounds harsh but you need to cut yourself off from those people, because they are unconsciously working against your vision, your dreams and your Journey. Of course it’s not their fault, much less it’s yours. To be quite honest it not about them it is all about you and your dream. It means that most of you would have to curb your relations and interactions with about half of them. If someone is really making you feel bad keep your relations very brief and deliberate. If they grizzle habitually don’t do the same thing just to comfort them. I know you think it’s polite but it doesn’t serve anyone. Neither you nor them. Don’t do the same thing. If someone is raging, keep your composure. If you friend is eating junk food, don’t do the same just to keep them company. Audit yourself. Are you guilty of that? Are those your behaviors?

There is no place for democracy when it comes to your emotion. You have to rule your emotions with an iron fist. Harness your emotions and your behaviors. Be decisive.

Don’t let others to arbitrarily change your state. You need to be aware that your motivation comes from the state you are currently in. If you will let yourself to the mental state of disappointment, depression, failure or sadness, your motivation will vanish suddenly. You can actually make yourself happy or miserable regardless of what is happening around you.

Tranquil, composed and healthy both mental and physical states are essential to refueling your motivation. Your state is like a gas station with a direct connection to a drilling platform. You can have all that motivation hidden under the surface, in you and around you, but without distributing point you will not be able to use it.

What if it’s not so good?

It’s fair to say that it’s easy to be motivated when everything is going your way or according to your plan. What if your worst day happen? How do you keep believing in your vison?  What happens when the Journey gets really hard and challenging? When you don’t know what to do? When you are frustrated or scared? How do you keep believing?

Story of a scapegoat

My whole carrier in banking, almost 4 years of my life, looked exactly like that. I had extremely bad days every second week, if I was lucky. If I wasn’t so lucky it could go on for days or weeks incessantly. For a long time, a was in a very dark place. Unfortunately, as sad as it sounds this happens to really many people for all different reasons. We had that saying at work, that out of the a few banking branches under our boss there had to be at least one scapegoat. No exception. That was based on our years of observations, research and whining. We all went through it couple times. When you were a scapegoat you were in this special kind of spotlight and it wasn’t anything good. Your every step, every decision, every meeting, every sales call had been judged. Everything you were doing was a terrible failure, even if it was a great success in fact. Going to a toilet was your personal failure. There was nothing you could about it. You had to write few extra report every single day to show what you were doing and why you were such lousy bungler. If you were unlucky you could have been told by your colleagues what the boss was saying about you when you left the room. It could go on like that for a few weeks.

Verge of change

There were a few times when I felt that I was on a verge of quitting but I haven’t go through with that though. I haven’t made that decision. I wanted to, but I haven’t had guts to do it. The worst day was the concept of my whole professional life. Every day was my worst day. No dreams, no vision and no future. Until it all changed and I jumped from that edge. I have cut that safety net which was holding me back. Now I intentionally put myself in situations when I must struggle. I love to push myself further than anyone else I personally know. I push myself from he edge.

Are you entitled to anything?

A few generations ago struggle was something that was truly horned by others. People build their character during their days of grind and hard work. Nowadays we live in convenient driven society. We love to do everything what’s easy and we are incredibly convinced that we are entitled to everything. We don’t have to earn that promotion or raise at work, we don’t have to earn that great body, we don’t have to earn respect and attention, we don’t have to earn and learn new skills. With all that being said and I know that there is something in you that really wants it.  Whatever it might be you have to go after it right NOW.

You are going to pay the bill

Be aware that your motivation is an absolute resource. Remember to be extremely mindful about the things that influence and affect your motivation charge bar. Last but not least you are responsible of your drive. It’s totally up to you to keep that fire burning. Are you going to throw a huge party with an open bar for your emotions for a bunch of people who just came here to drink for free or if it’s going to be a smaller meeting for people who build you up and who came here to give best of them? Regardless what you chose, you are going to pay that bill. I highly recommend you to audit your inner circle.

Just run … - Life

It takes about 40 000 steps on average to run a marathon. 40 000 itsy bitsy steps. There no place for humongous jumps. The outcome of your run, your life and who you indeed become is the result of your every little step, every little decision compounded. Every little decision matters. The good news for you is that those little things are easy to do. It takes very little effort to take that step. You just have to make that a choice. We are all capable of doing that. But the bad news is that since it’s so easy to do, it is also easy not to do, and that’s what everybody else around you are doing.

Let’s say you decide now to start running. What will happen? You won’t be any healthier the next day, you won’t get the immediate result but after a year you would see huge benefits from it. It takes a whole lot of persistence and patience to see the results. The great thing is that you can apply it to anything. Literally to whatever you want.

You can do the things other people are doing all their life and say: It’s not like this little decision matters and you will externalize this unsuccessful mindset. The fact of the matter is that your little decisions make all the difference. Every little decision of yours, every practice, every sacrifice, every obstacle on the way will be compounded at the end. You will be the final result. Get your decision in line with your vision. The more you can do it, the closer you will be to the person you really want to become. Take responsibility for where you are in life.

If you want to stay discipline on your path, your Journey of becoming a runner you need to constantly re-fire your desire, re-aim who you are. Does this make any sense to you?

Write down all the necessary steps to take this action. How do you prepare for running? What needs to happen for you to go for a run? Think about it carefully. Write it one by one.  Do you have everything mapped in place? Go through it again. Haven’t you miss anything? OK.

Which step is not necessary? Choose one. Cross it from the sequence of your behavior. Now we simply need to start removing steps until you end up with the shortest possible sequence. If you think it’s easier said than done, allow me to show you how you can do it. From all the steps you have listed select three that are most important in your mind. Now take off the one that is not essential for taking that action. Than take off another one. Is there a step in your sequence that can be done a day or few days before or after? Cross it from your list and make sure to make a habit out of doing it before the action. If there are any obstacles standing in the way of your ability to take action, remove them. If you want to go running in the morning before work you can for example prepare your outfit, your shoes, set up your alarm clock and on and on. This will cut the steps from your morning sequence and it will make it much easier and more applicable. It’s up to you help yourself to act.

Once you have a desire and direction you need to take it a stage further. But how? To take this next step you need discipline. To get something you never had you have to do something you never did. You need to work harder and more consistent then you ever did before.

Reverse this and tell me How easy it is not to be discipline? How easy it is to sit on your couch, watch movies, keep on browsing the internet. It takes no effort.

If you are a runner you will run no matter what the weather is going to be. It can be cold or windy, it can rain or snow you will still go running. Why is that? You have changed your identity. You don’t let the things that are out of your control to stop you. In order to keep on going you need to develop your habits. If you want to master any area of your life you need to work on it consistently. Be absolutely committed to the habits and practices that support you on your Journey. Ask yourself what kind of discipline you can create in your life that you will be doing consistently every day. Create a joyful habit of consistent pursuit after your goal.

Look for internal and external triggers and set them up in your daily routine. Notice what’s working for you and what’s not. Create your own motivators. Create your own habits and routines. Nip all possibilities of failure in the bud.

To make a daily routine out of your running you need to change your habits. There are three general levels of awareness essential in understanding the change in our behavior.

1. Cognitive understanding

It is the first level of awareness. Knowing doesn’t mean understanding.  Most of you know what you should do and what the concept is about. However, many just don’t do what they know. Why is that? Every smoker knows they shouldn’t smoke. They know it’s bad. They know it’s killing them. So what? It doesn’t mean anything. Information by itself has no causative value. Information without hardcore execution is just wasted opportunity. They can read the warnings on the pack of cigarettes, they even might know someone who suffered from lung cancer but it still doesn’t matter. Intellectual level of understanding doesn’t change anything. In order to make change, to change behavior it has to go to the next level.

2. Emotional understanding

You suddenly didn’t become more intelligent. It’s the same information but you have emotional understanding of your actions or inactions. It happens when you’ve done or heard something so many times that it has created enough emotions, enough pain or pleasure, enough wants or fears, that you understand it in your gut. Now you are aware of your pains. You have associated them with the certain situations. You imagine what you might lose. It will get you to change your behavior but it won’t produce a consistent change or a massive shift. Talent and good intensions are never enough in this world. To get your consistency you need a third level.

3. Identity shift

The strongest force in the human personality is the need to remain consistent with how you define yourself. In other words, your identity. We all have different identities. Why do runners feel anxious if they don’t run for a week? Because it’s a part of their identity, that’s who they are. Unless you don’t make a shift of your identity at that level, you’re not going to change your behavior long term because your actions are always in line with your identity. You are challenging willpower and problem with will power is that it has a time limit. If you rely only on your willpower you set yourself up form major disappointment.

To get that identity shift you first need to know what is your current identity and what it needs to be in order to succeed long term. Who do you want to become? It’s like you were a smoker and someone offers you a cigarette. You say either: Oh no I’ve quit or you say I don’t smoke. With the first one you’re obviously still a smoker who just quit. You are subconsciously suggesting this might not be permanent change. You are not sure if you will persevere. Second one is a certain and bold claim that this is not your identity anymore. Claim your identity. Be sure.

In my personal life I had the same experience with being vegetarian. So many times people asked me about it and I have always said: I don’t eat meat. Especially on family meeting I was constantly facing questions like: Maybe you will eat this meat once; I have prepared this for you; You will disappoint me if you don’t; This is healthy for you and so on and on. If you will let the smallest shadow of doubt to flourish in your mind you will be just waiting the for moment of your failure. My identity was changed long ago so all those questions and statements are not a big challenge to me. It’s the other way around, they are only fueling my engine and cementing my identity. I have been a rebel soul all my life and now I’m just using that to my advantage.

If you really want to start running there is a little bit more behind it then just run. Audit your preparation for to running. When do you run? What needs to happen for you to go for a run? Do you plan your trainings ahead? Make it as easy as possible. Cut of as many variables and elements as possible e.g. prepare your clothes before.

Don’t rely on your willpower and motivation. Instead establish habits, routines and triggers to set you up for success.

Don’t forget about the centerpiece. Create identity shift to set yourself up for long lasting success. Be a person you want to become in the future.

overnight success nowisahabit

Keep that luck shit in your pocket – Gary Vaynerchuk

Let’s get one thing straight before we start. Overnight success is the biggest bullshit ever created and so many people believe in it. Things you call overnight success are an effect of weeks, months or years of preparation, hard work, countless failures, grind and hard work. Success doesn’t happen overnight.  That person started long ago before anyone could even see it. It was months or years in the making. Months or years of lonely hard work, countless hours of hustle, grind and gritting teeth. Months or years of no recognition, no prize, no support.

overnight success nowisahbit

Many people are not achieving what they want and are lacking the patience and think everything happens overnight and that is coming at a cost of unhappy life – Gary Vaynerchuk

If you haven’t heard about Gary Vaynerchuk already, I urge all of you, who have dreams, who want to be something more, to go and delve into his hustle. I wasn’t paid or asked to write it, I’m just so happy I’ve run into Gary on YouTube. He’s such amazing inspiration that I want to share it with you. Go to his YouTube channel (below), watch #DailyVee  or #AskGaryVee and see for yourself. See what pure hustle and hard work looks like in real life. Then ask yourself Are you willing to do one-tenth of it? Is this what you really want? I know what is my answer.

You probably think I just started writing since this blog is so new. Well, I’ll disappoint you once more. It’s about 24 months in the making really. 24 months of learning, reading, writing and experimenting. It has really started from the mental shift I’ve made. Then came 6 months of working hard on a few different projects. Trying some many new things, researching, preparing, failing, investing ton of time. Waking up at 4.38 to write a business plan and financial forecast. Something I never done before and had very little knowledge about. It did not matter.

And how did it all go? Well, it didn’t go at all. Almost 12 months of hard work and meeting did not lead to any substantial results. None. We didn’t start that business. Most of you think what waste of time, right? You know what, not a minute of that time was waste. Not even a second. Did it hurt? Yes, it did. Was I disappointed? Yes. But it was one of the best practical lessons I’ve ever experienced. It was my personal academy of learning a load of new skills, developing strong habits and dedication.

The fun fact is that before, I’ve never consider myself creative, innovative or visionary. I’ve just thought that I don’t have it in me. It’s just not who I am. At first I’ve timidly peeked through a key whole to my creativity. Eventually I’ve not only opened that door but wrecked the entire wall. NOW I am creative. I am innovative. I am visionary. Hi, that’s Me.

About 6 months ago I’ve decided I’m going to write on a daily basis. At that point I was not thinking about running a blog. For those 6 months I was consuming knowledge, reading and listing very consciously. Getting inspired, thought and mentored during the day and writing in the evening. I was writing 6 days a week for 5 months. It was not easy at first. I wasn’t used to it. I was tough. There were many days I didn’t feel like it, I was just tired, I wanted to relax and watch a movie or my kids got sick. It was winter, it was cold and dark but I didn’t give it up. It was not an option.

For the first 30 days I forced to write at least one page a day. I’ve started from an hour a day, then hour and a half, two hours, going all the way to four hours lately. Now it’s mostly not writing but it’s still so much fun. After initial 30 days of struggle I don’t have to force myself any more. Now I wake up in the morning and start envisioning things I will be doing in the evening. Working on the web page with my wife, writing a post, setting up social media or working in Photoshop. Once I went all in it stopped being just a necessity and became my life.

Your ‘Overnight’ Journey will take you years. But people will think you’ve just got lucky. They will just see the final product and disregard all the things you’ve sacrificed on the way. The best things you can do is to leave of expectation towards other people on the start line. It will sound very cynically but don’t expect any help. Don’t expect any support. Don’t expect to cuddled. It will be lonely. It will be long. It will be hard. But this is your ‘Overnight’ Journey.
